Overview

This is a textbook Barolo that exemplifies the majesty of Nebbiolo. Despite its relative youth for a Barolo, the 2019 vintage shows beautiful complexity. The famous "tar and roses" signature of great Nebbiolo is present, with fresh red cherries and dried roses dominating the nose, underpinned by hints of leather and truffle. The palate is structured and powerful yet remarkably elegant, with high but refined tannins that promise excellent ageing potential. This wine will continue to develop beautifully over the next 10-15 years.

Appearance

Brilliant
Medium
Garnet with orange-brick rim
Pronounced legs, indicating high alcohol and extract

The signature garnet-to-brick colour gradient is unmistakably Nebbiolo. Despite its youth, the orange rim hints at the variety's natural tendency to show evolved colours early. The transparency through the core is typical of the grape—Nebbiolo is never opaque.

Nose

This is the famous "tar and roses" of great Barolo, and it does not disappoint. Fresh sour cherry leads, bright and vivid, joined by an intoxicating floral bouquet of dried rose petals and violets. The tertiary complexity is already emerging: leather whispers in the background, with hints of tar and a suggestion of white truffle that speaks of Piedmont's prized soils. Liquorice and subtle vanilla from oak ageing add depth. A wine that demands you return to the glass again and again.

Terroir

Barolo DOCG lies in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, where Nebbiolo thrives on calcareous marl and clay soils. The combination of warm days and cool nights in the shadow of the Alps allows extended ripening while preserving acidity. The 2019 vintage was marked by a balanced growing season, producing wines with excellent fruit concentration and structure.
